W7 &O10

The computers in the West Library do not yet have Windows 7 or Office 2010 software loaded on them, but we have some options if you need to use them:

• If you are enrolled in a W7 or O10 class, your Madison College network log-in and password should get you into a virtual access program loaded on the computers that will get you into them. Ask us at the library desk if you can't find the VMware program.
• We have two in-library use laptops available for checkout that have W7 and O10 loaded.
• When available, there are a couple classroom labs on the third floor with W7 and O10 loaded.

Food for Fines

As we head toward the end of the semester and academic year, you may have accumulated some pesky library fines. Not to fear, the Madison College Libraries will again be offering the "Food for Fines" service to make it easy for you to take care of your fines and feel good about helping someone out at the same time. Beginning Monday, April 18, for every can of non-perishable food you donate, we will knock $2 off of your fines. Questions? Ask at any of the Madison College Libraries.

NLW Essay Contest Winners (including some West students)

The winner of the Madison College Libraries National Library Week Essay Contest was Najeeb Ullah. Among the runner-up winners were West students Shaina Langlois and Eitan Barak. Way to go Shaina and Eitan! Thanks to everyone who entered.

Treats in the library on 4/11/11

Stop by the West Library (or any other Madison College Library) on Monday, April 4 for coffee, pastries, and other treats. We don't usually encourage food in the library, but today is an exception to celebrate National Library Week.

Want to win a Nook?

In conjunction with National Library Week, the Madison College Libraries are running an essay contest with the top prize being a NookColor and $50 Barnes & Noble gift card. The runner-up will receive an original Nook along with a $25 gift card. 3rd, 4th, and 5th place will each receive $25 gift cards.

Your essay will tell us how libraries have impacted your Madison College learning experience. It should be at least 500 words. Include your name, student ID number, e-mail address, phone number, and primary campus. Submit your essay electronically to madisoncollegelibrary@gmail.com by March 28. One entry per student. The winners will be announced on Monday, April 11.

Spring Break Library Hours

Spring Break is coming up the week of March 14-18. Hooray! The West Campus Library will be open from 7:45-4:00 Monday through Friday of that week.

If you're looking for some lighter reading during Spring Break, check out the current display in the West Library.

Remember also that all Madison College Libraries are closed on Friday, March 11 for staff convocation.

Women's History Month Display

March is Women's History Month. Check out the display in the West Campus Library featuring books about prominent women and women's history in general.

The Social Network

The West Campus Library has a copy of David Fincher's acclaimed film The Social Network (000 SOCIA 2011 DVD) in the collection for checkout. The Social Network was nominated for eight categories and won in three at this year's Academy Awards.

The West Campus Library also has a copy of the book the movie was based on, The Accidental Billionaires (006.754 M617) for checkout.

And the Oscar goes to...

Thanks to everyone that participated in the West Madison Library's Oscar Contest.

Two contestants, Ryan Olson and Sarah Kerl, went back and forth throughout the night exchanging the lead, and at the end they finished tied with the most amount of correct entries. Our contest rules stipulated that in case of a tie the winner was to be chosen by the library staff through a random drawing, and that person was Ryan Olson.

Congratulations Ryan! Ryan wins a pair of Marcus movie tickets.

Lots of Classes in the Library in February

During the weeks of February 14-18 and February 21-25 there will be a few times when the West Library's computer lab will be reserved for library sessions. The rest of the library will be open during those times, but the computer lab will be reserved for a class. There are signs in the library indicating when during those two weeks the lab is reserved. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Win a Pair of Marcus Movie Tickets!

Want to win a pair of Marcus movie tickets? Enter the Madison College West Library's Oscar Contest and you could.

Pick up a contest form at the Madison College West Library circulation desk. You must fill out both sides of the contest form to be eligible to win. Return your contest form to the West Library by 4:00pm on Friday, February 25. In case of a tie, the winner will be determined by random drawing by the library staff. The winner will be notified by e-mail on Monday, February 28.
